A Timeless Scottish Coastal Wedding at The Renaissance Club

When it comes to capturing a wedding on film, it’s not just about documenting the day; it’s about preserving the emotions, the atmosphere, and the little moments that might otherwise fade over time. For Charlotte and Bertie, their wedding at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick was a testament to elegance, family, and the deep-rooted connections that make a wedding day truly unforgettable.

A Venue Steeped in Personal Significance

The Renaissance Club isn’t typically a wedding venue; in fact, it’s one of the most exclusive golf clubs in Scotland, with new memberships costing around £35,000 and annual dues of approximately £6,000. That exclusivity made this celebration all the more unique. Thanks to a family connection, Charlotte and Bertie were able to host their intimate yet grand wedding at this stunning coastal retreat. With breathtaking sea views and an atmosphere of understated luxury, it was the perfect choice for a couple who values both tradition and individuality.

A Day of Thoughtful Details

From the moment we arrived at the Villas for preps, we noticed the level of personalisation that made this wedding stand out. A booklet featuring a hand-drawn tree from the venue immediately caught our attention. Recognising the significance, we made it a priority to capture that very tree in the best possible light, highlighting the emotional ties the couple had to the location.

During my walk back from filming the tree, I came across the mothers practicing their handfasting roles. I noticed them struggling, so I quickly went to the photographer and asked them to model the hand-tying with me. We worked together to demonstrate the correct way to tie it, ensuring the knot would hold properly. Getting the tying right is crucial—without it, there’s a risk that during the ceremony, the couple might pull apart and be left without a knot at all! Moments like this highlight the importance of attention to detail and collaboration between vendors to ensure everything runs smoothly.

The Scottish sun was in full force all day, casting a warm glow over the festivities. While this made for beautiful golden-hour shots, it also presented creative challenges, especially in the marquee, where the direct sunlight turned everything into a warm amber hue. Adapting to these conditions is part of what makes wedding filmmaking an art—capturing a scene exactly as it felt in the moment, not just as it looked.

A Celebration Designed for Connection

One of the standout elements of Charlotte and Bertie’s wedding was their intention to bring people together. With family and friends travelling from all over, they wanted their guests to not only celebrate but also connect. This is why they chose a venue where most guests could stay on-site, ensuring a relaxed and immersive experience across the entire weekend.

Dinner was served throughout the evening, interspersed with heartfelt speeches from those closest to the couple. While this created a seamless dining experience for guests, it posed some logistical challenges for the creative team. Without dedicated breaks between speeches, ensuring smooth continuity in the film required careful planning—something couples considering a similar schedule might want to keep in mind.

The Magic of Their Love Story

Charlotte and Bertie’s love story is one that feels like it was always meant to be. Meeting through family connections and growing closer over the years, Bertie knew Charlotte was the one when he saw her give a speech at her sister’s wedding. Years later, he proposed in a location that held deep sentimental value: a Norfolk garden overlooking the very spot where they had shared their first kiss.

On their wedding day, their relationship was described in five key words: trusting, supportive, loving, respectful, and silly. It was clear from every interaction that these qualities defined their partnership. Watching them together, it was evident why their friends and family hold them in such high regard.

The Incredible Team Behind the Day

A wedding film is only as good as the sum of its parts, and Charlotte and Bertie’s wedding was a testament to what happens when a talented team comes together. The incredible work of the suppliers ensured that every moment looked and felt as luxurious as the couple had envisioned.

  • Photography: Leanne Heron captured the day beautifully, working seamlessly alongside us to document every intimate moment.

  • Floral Design: Feather Grass Florals (Aoife) crafted stunning arrangements that enhanced the already picturesque setting.

  • Band: The Phat Cats kept the dance floor alive, creating an electric atmosphere for the evening celebrations.

  • Marquee: Frame & Tailor provided the stunning marquee that housed the reception, creating a dreamy, elegant space despite the challenges of shooting in direct sunlight.

  • Celebrant: Jane Keir delivered a heartfelt ceremony, setting the tone for an emotional and unforgettable day.

With a combination of breathtaking scenery, expertly curated details, and an amazing team of suppliers, this wedding film was always going to be something special. Every frame was a reflection of the couple’s vision—timeless, sophisticated, and full of genuine emotion.

Crafting a Wedding Film That Feels as Luxurious as the Day Itself

For couples looking to host an exclusive Scottish wedding that blends heritage with modern elegance, Charlotte and Bertie’s day serves as a perfect example. Their choice of The Renaissance Club, their attention to meaningful details, and their effortless style all contributed to a celebration that felt truly bespoke.

As wedding filmmakers, our goal is to create a film that doesn’t just show the events of the day but transports our couples back to how it felt. For high-end clients looking to capture the essence of their love story in an authentic and cinematic way, this is the type of wedding film that becomes a treasured family heirloom.

If you’re planning your own luxury wedding in Scotland and want a film that encapsulates every raw, elegant, and heartfelt moment, we’d love to tell your story.
