Beauty in Stillness || A Thoughtful, Intimate Wedding at Ballintaggart Farm

Some weddings unfold like a deep breath. Slow, intentional, and full of presence. Mitch and Ilona’s day at Ballintaggart Farm in Perthshire was exactly that. With just 27 guests, handwritten letters, and the softest sunset we’ve seen in a long time, this wedding gave space to feel. Their film, Beauty in Stillness, a phrase from Ilona’s vows, sums it all up perfectly.

Slow Mornings and Quiet Chaos

The day started early, and in the best possible way. Mitch cooked breakfast for everyone staying on site—something small, simple, but full of meaning. That one gesture really set the tone: calm, thoughtful, and completely in tune with who they are. We arrived early to capture it all, which also led to one of those brilliant wedding day moments: Me (Simon) accidentally walking in on a sleeping guest. No drama, just one of those things that reminds you weddings are beautifully human.

The prep felt warm and grounded, even with a few nerves kicking in. Mitch had a moment where it all started to feel a bit overwhelming. Bernadeta Kupiec, their photographer, stepped in with some calming techniques, and the whole energy shifted. It’s amazing what the right team can do when they really care.

Vows, Letters, and a Very Personal Ceremony

Originally, Mitch and Ilona planned a first look in the orchard. But on the day, with nerves running high, it just didn’t happen. Their actual first look was down the aisle, and honestly, it couldn’t have been more emotional.

Later on, we brought them to the orchard anyway, quietly, just the two of them, to give them the peaceful moment they had imagined, without the pressure. We filmed a few calm moments there so that they still had those visuals they dreamed of having in their film.

The ceremony itself was led by Andrew D. Scott, a brilliant humanist celebrant who kept things relaxed, personal, and completely focused on the couple. No readings. No big productions. Just honest vows, shared smiles, and more than a few happy tears.

And then came the surprise: handwritten letters and personalised recipe cards for every guest—and for every supplier, too. Easily one of the most thoughtful touches we’ve ever seen. Everyone felt seen, appreciated, and part of something intimate and special.

Candlelight, Ceilidh, and the Sunset Worth Remembering

The feast room at Ballintaggart was everything you’d want from a small wedding dinner, glowing candles, wild florals from @verbenaflowers.studio, and a relaxed setup styled by Lavender and Rose Events (@lavenderandroseevents) that made the whole room feel like home. Speeches were scattered throughout the meal, each one more heartfelt than the last.

And then, that golden hour.

Just as the dancing began, the sky turned this rich, glowing gold. The ceilidh kicked off with guests who, mostly, had never danced one before, and it was absolute chaos in the best way. Everyone jumped in, full of energy and joy. No one held back.

Now, Mitch and Ilona had learned a choreographed waltz in the lead-up to the day. But when it came down to it—standing in front of everyone in a gown and suit—they decided to skip it. And we completely got it. So instead, during sunset, we found a quiet spot just for them. No crowd, no pressure. Just a few steps, a bit of music, and a moment of stillness. That dance, in the quiet of golden hour, ended up being one of the most meaningful moments of the entire day.

Ballintaggart Farm

Mitch and Ilona chose Ballintaggart for a reason… It’s peaceful, it’s tucked away, and it doesn’t try too hard. It’s the kind of place that just lets you breathe.

The venue sits quietly in the Perthshire hills and offers just enough space to keep everything feeling close without it being cramped. It suited the size of this wedding perfectly. With only 27 guests, the whole day felt like one long dinner table conversation, just with better food and a great view.

And speaking of food, Ballintaggart is known for it, and it delivered. No one was fussing about timing or whether things were “wedding fancy.” It was just good food, served well, in a relaxed setting that encouraged people to stay present and enjoy themselves.

From a supplier’s point of view, the team were great to work with. Things ran smoothly. No stress. No scrambling. Just a steady, well-organised day in a space that felt calm and comfortable. Whether we were filming speeches in the feast room or grabbing golden hour shots outside, the whole venue just worked around the flow of the day.

It wasn’t about being “the most epic Scottish wedding venue ever.” It was about giving Mitch and Ilona a space that felt like them. And that’s exactly what it did.

Working with Clementine Weddings

This was our first time working with Lindsay from Clementine Weddings (@clementineweddings), though we’d heard her name plenty over the years from other people in the industry. Seeing her work in person was a privilege. She was composed, calm, and totally on it.

What really stood out was how she looked after everyone, not just the couple, but the suppliers too. We were always informed, never scrambling, and well looked after throughout the day. It’s rare to work with a planner who’s equally focused on the experience of the team as much as the guests. If you’re after someone who brings clarity and calm to the wedding day, Lindsay is the one we’d point to.

And Bernadeta Kupiec Photography

We’ve known Bernadeta from the photography world for a while now. She’s been on our podcast, Perspective by Cinemate, where we talk with other creatives about why they do what they do. We’ve crossed paths at events and conferences, but this was the first time we actually got to work alongside her at a wedding.

And honestly, it was a pleasure. Bernadeta has this calm, thoughtful presence that matched Mitch and Ilona’s day perfectly. She doesn’t force anything. She just watches, waits, and captures moments as they unfold, which is very much how we like to work too. There was a lovely rhythm between our teams, and it helped tell the story in a way that felt honest and whole. When photo and film move together like that, it makes a real difference.

The Creative Team

This was one of those weddings where everyone brought their A-game. You could feel the care in every detail, and we feel lucky to have been part of it. So here’s a list to help you curate your perfect team!
